Our history

Epson’s journey has been fuelled by firsts, a desire to innovate and a need to push boundaries. In fact, we’ve been doing just that for the last 50 years… and will continue to do so tomorrow. It’s not just our ambition; it’s our mission.

Daiwa Kogyo Ltd. (the predecessor of Seiko Epson Corporation) is established.
Epson launches the world’s first miniprinter, the EP-101.
The Seiko Quartz Astron 35SQ, the world’s first analogue quartz watch, goes on sale.
The Epson brand is established.
Suwa Seikosha Co., Ltd. and Epson Corporation merge to form Seiko Epson Corporation.
Epson receives the Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award from the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
Epson is listed in the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the fourth largest stock exchange in the world.
Seiko Quartz Astron 35SQ, the world’s first quartz wristwatch, receives the prestigious IEEE Milestone Award.
Epson wins Best Photo Printer and Best Photo Projector in TIPA Awards.
